Our first trip - Samsun, Turkey

October 14th 2019 saw the start of our amazing exchange program and the official launch of  the project: Making STEAM literacy a reality for all students.
Our generous hosts at
SAMSUN ANADOLU LISESI made all of our partner schools feel incredibly welcome from the start. We began our brand new project with workshops on acid rain. Students were charged with the task of building a model town complete with road, houses and people. Once the love, care and attention to detail was complete, the Chemistry team arrived to demonstrate and explain the detrimental effects of acid rain on our surroundings. The students teamed up to report their findings and what they learnt over the course of the week, which they can now share with our Erasmus team and other students at school.
Team Samsun blew us away with their incredible generosity and accommodating welcome. If there were ever any doubts about taking part with Erasmus, these were immediately eradicated as the power and positivity of exchange became more and more evident as the week went on. All visiting students were welcomed like new family members by their host students and raved about how well looked after they were. The staff and students at Samsun presented their city and country to us with such pride, helping us to gain an amazing cultural insight into Turkish traditions, food and sites. The cultural exchange benefits were an incredible learning experience for all staff and students and we hope that the rest of us can reciprocate with the same unbelievably high standards when it’s our turn to host.
February 14th- 20th 2020

Trip Two - Stretford (Manchester), UK

It seemed like a mere matter of weeks since we were enjoying the magnificent hospitality of our friends in Turkey, but February soon rolled around, and with it, the prospect of our second mobility: Stretford High School in Manchester, UK.
As typical Manchester weather dictates, the partners were welcomed with blustery wind and lashing rain but still managed to make the most of the sites. Guests were treated to a lovely tour of Manchester, viewing the famous Science and Industry Museum and the beautiful John Ryland’s Library. For a change of scenery, our partners were also able to enjoy a Great British Sunday with a treasure hunt around the wonderful Roman city, Chester; a typical Sunday roast dinner, as well as a lovely country-side walk in Dunham.
Promoting our project of making STEAM literacy a reality was our key focus in school, where teachers and students alike worked together to present research on how to make a sustainable school. The pupils excelled in their teamwork, not only presenting their research on sustainable materials but also showing off their creative skills in designing, building and using Google Sketch Up. Hopefully, we have a few budding architects and engineers amongst our students! The workshops were fun as well as informative and all of the teachers were incredibly impressed with the students’ work and final design.
Other highlights of the trip included visits to the local museum, Old Trafford (home of Manchester United), UK vs Europe Dodgeball, and performances of dance and music specially presented for the European visitors.
As we said goodbye and farewell to our second mobility adventure, the buzz around Erasmus and our project were infectious. Staff and students at Stretford High were so happy and excited to meet and host our visitors and there were even a few tears on the last day. It is safe to say that everyone involved with this Erasmus project will feel a positive impact for many years to come.
All we can do now is wait for our next trip with anticipation.
