For the last few years, British Science Week has become a highlight on the Stretford High calendar. All week, amazing activities and tasks have been run throughout lunch and break times. The STEM exhibition is always eagerly anticipated and the students have been treated to amazing sights, visitors and interactive tasks by our incredible Science department. What a brilliant week had by all!

In preparation for our second mobility visit, our students at Stretford High spent their time in January and February creating our incredible 3D raised map of Europe. We also researched and created our presentation on our design for a sustainable school which all partners would be ready to collaborate on when arriving in the UK in February.
To kick New Year off with a lovely start, our Portuguese partners attended an Animals' association (JAVA) and brought them the little kennel their special needs students made, along with juice packages and the donations of bags of dog food. The students of Samsun (Turkey), put their gardening gloves on and took to planting saplings in their area. Not only will it improve the scenery, but planting trees also brings great environmental benefits by absorbing CO2 and producing oxygen. With climate change as a massive issue, it's important that we all play our part in reducing greenhouse gases. Well done everyone!
Building an Aquaponic Garden workshop:
Prof. Dr. Yüksel Ardalı and her assistants from the Environmental Engineering Department of the local university guided our students while building an aquaponic garden. They taught the basics and sustainability of the system which is an example of sustainable agriculture. We had a lot fun during the workshop investing in the future whilst using our past scientific knowledge and experiences. Our lucky year 9 students were treated to the pleasure of being addressed by a wide variety of Engineers, who gave up their time to chat with us. Each visitor presented information about their specialist field and discussed what it was like to do their job on a day to day basis. Our students were really engaged and interested to learn about the wide range of careers available in Engineering, such as: Civil Engineering, Software Engineering, Nuclear Engineering and Computer Science.
Thank you so much to all the visitors who gave up their time to speak to our students.
